The Implementation of an External Facing SAP Portal [March 2011]
Employing a user-centred design methodology, my year long study culminated in a 24,000 word thesis which offers an exploration of generational differences in the use of technology and analyses of existing government websites. A review of enterprise-resource planning (SAP) software is also conducted to better understand the technologies available with the client's in-house systems. Finally, my findings promote civic engagement by developing methodological guidelines that address the three cornerstones of usability (efficiency, effectiveness, and satisfaction) in the design of an interactive environment that enriches online communities.
Women and Minorities in IT: The Social Context of Computing [November 2010]
My paper identifies the current social context of computing studies, researches the cultural and societal factors that lead to the under-representation of females and minorities in the field of computer science from the early stages of educational learning and provides an overview of existing efforts currently underway to diminish the gender and ethnic/racial gaps.
The Value in Higher Education [December 2009]
The findings from this research considers the generally perceived purposes of universities and validates the benefits of post-secondary education by investigating the relationship among earnings, employment, and higher education. The results help form a case as I suggest the importance of post-secondary education as an individual investment in leadership development, financial security, and proactive contribution to the broader social benefits of the community.
The Glass Ceiling in Corporate Canada [July 2009]
My thesis evaluates the ratio of female (to male) executives in corporate Canada, validates the existence of a glass ceiling and outlines strategic recommendations that could assist female post-secondary students studying business or management in successfully pursuing executive roles upon entering the workforce. My paper suggests that two of Sean Ruth's ego defenses of internalized oppression are, in fact, proactive responses by the female group to combat current day inequality and to break through the glass ceiling in corporate Canada.
